These instructions assume you are using a Macintosh OS X computer that is running Cyberduck. If you are at home, make sure you have an active Internet connection. If you are using a Windows, follow the CoreFTP Lite instructions instead.
To download Cyberduck (a free program), go to: http://cyberduck.ch/ |
1) Launch Cyberduck. A Cyberduck browser window should appear on your screen. Choose "New Connection" from the file menu or click on the "New Connection" button on the browser window. Your screen will look something like this:
Note that these screenshots may look a little different than what you actually see.
2) Choose "SFTP" from the pull down menu in the connection dialog box.
3) In the "Username" field, enter your Webhawks user name. (If you are using a Macintosh at Cabrillo, note that you may see your Cabrillo network user name appear, and that you will need to change this user name to your Webhawks user name.)
Here is how to determine your Webhawks user name: Your Webhawks user name starts with the Cabrillo course number (for example, "dm60", "dm61", "dm62", or "dm70") followed by your Cabrillo student network account name. For example, the Webhawks user name for Mary Johnson whose Cabrillo ID number is 1234567 and is in the dm60 class would be "dm60majohn4567". |
4) Leave the "Path" field blank.
5) In the "password" field, enter your Webhawks password.
Here is how to determine your Webhawks password: Your Webhawks password is your birthdate. The format is mmddyy. For example, if your birthdate is August 28, 1976, your password would be 082876. |
6) Click "Connect".
7) When your connection completes, you will see a folder in the Cyberduck browser namned "public_html" which is the directory for all your web files. Double-click on your "public_html" folder to see its contents (if you have never uploaded any files into it, it will be empty.)
8) Drag files into your "public_html" folder or use the "upload" button on the Cyberduck browser.
9) When you are ready to view your page in your Web browser, launch your
browser (Safari, Explorer or Mozilla, for example) and go to the following URL:
http://webhawks.org/~yourusername/
to view your home page.
